Three Penny Needles ~ Shakespeare's Peddler
Three Penny Needles:
I started this series back in 2024, inspired by the colorful little cards that needles used to be
packed in. And, stitched on 40 count, they fit in a standard 5 by 7 frame! For this one, I wanted to
celebrate the humble penny — a coin which we’ve had in our pockets and purses, bought candy
and cross stitch stuff and made wishes in fountains. I have a great affection for Abraham Lincoln,
whose profile is on the penny. So, look for nods to Abe: a train, an axe, the log cabin he was born
in, “Honest” and a top hat, a Lincoln Star quilt block, a basket of pennies, and the Illinois state
tree (white oak), bird (cardinal) and flower (violet). Oh, and a blackberry pie, his favorite dessert!
